Red Eclipse on NetBSD || dressupgeekout

Introduction

Red Eclipse has been working on NetBSD for a few years already, but there’s a few things worth saying about it.

Two versions in pkgsrc

Note that pkgsrc provides two (2!) different versions of Red Eclipse.

games/redeclipse is the most recent release of the game, currently 2.0.0 (“Jupiter Edition”). This uses the new game engine and the smaller collection of maps.
games/redeclipse16 is the older version with the original Cube 2 engine (version 1.6.0). It has the larger collection of maps.

It is possible to install both at the same time, they are installed at different paths:

# You can install both:
pkgin -y install redeclipse redeclipse16

# For the new version:
/usr/pkg/bin/redeclipse

# For the old version:
/usr/pkg/bin/redeclipse16
